As with a telescopic fishing pole, the collapsible fishing pole has the main benefit of being convenient. It allows you to carry your pole with you at all times, and be ready for fishing at a moment’s notice.
While telescoping poles seem to be all the rage these days, there are still people who prefer the collapsible model, so I looked into a number of these.
Rather than finding the obvious, all around best model, I found a few great models that are each going to be good collapsible fishing rods for different situations, needs, and budgets. Here are the best of each category that I was able to find.

This light weight collapsible fishing pole is 6’6” when put together, but collapses down to 15” for storage in any tackle box. Currently at under $14, it’s a great deal. It has stainless steel guides with ceramic inserts, and a twist-lock graphite reel seat with a collapsed length of 16½ inches.
It’s a perfect rod for a beginner, or as an extra rod to carry with you wherever you go, for that unexpected opportunity to go fishing on your lunch break, or a quick stop while traveling. It has an average rating of four out of five stars from 106 reviews. There are some 1-, 2-, and 3-star reviews.
Customers have commented positively about the black foam grip that doesn’t slide around in your hands whether they are wet or dry. Numerous users have commented about the sensitivity of the rod. It is more sensitive compared to many telescoping rods, and more so than two-piece rods, so that you will be able to feel the fish and bring it in.
The rod is easy to assemble. When it is assembled tightly, it will not come apart while fishing. There were some comments that this might not be the best rod for exceptionally hard casting, so if that’s your need, you might want to pass on this collapsible fishing pole.
Basically, with the advantages of this collapsible fishing pole, and the unbeatable price, it is a great value for a casual or beginning fisher. An advanced fisher might not use it for his/her main rod, but might still want it in a portable tackle box for unexpected fishing opportunities. Its ultimate portability compared to telescoping rods is an advantage.
Also a good deal at under $25, this collapsible fishing rod is good for light and medium fishing. This also has an average of four out of five stars, out of 36 reviews. There are eight 1-, 2-, and 3-star reviews.
The assembled length is 7’6”, and the longest piece is 20”. It comes with a one-year warranty and works well for fly fishing or spin casting. Customers have found it to work best with light- to medium-strength casts. One customer used it to land a 5-pound LMB and 22-pound carp in the same backpacking trip!
The durable glass construction makes this pole perfect for the trail, trunk, or turbo-prop. The aggressive action in a small package can change a boring business trip into something to remember. Customers find it to have a light weight, and a good feel. Mention was made of the need to tighten it throughout a day of fishing.
This collapsible fishing pole is perfect for taking on camping/backpacking trips. It folds up conveniently and is durable and easy to assemble. With the excellent price and quality light to medium action, this could be a perfect hiking/camping rod.
Coming in at under $42, this best-selling collapsible fishing rod kit is a good value. It includes flies and a 20 size reel, along with the five-piece, 6’ rod with durable ceramic guide inserts, stainless steel hooded reel seats, and machine-cut brass pinion gear. The case is durable and makes the rod safely portable in any situation.
197 reviews average 4.5 out of 5 stars for this rod. There are one hundred fifty-five 4- and 5-star reviews, along with ten 1-star, eleven 2-star, and twenty-one 3-star reviews.
Customers have found this excellent for fresh-water fishing for light- to medium-weight casting. They have also found that they were able to get good casts even with 20 mph winds. It is great for use from the shore, from a boat, or even off a bridge, with no problems bringing the fish in from any of these locations.
This is not a collapsible fishing pole to whip out instantly and plop in the water, though. The set up takes a few minutes, and it’s important, as with all collapsible fishing rods, to be sure to connect the sections tightly. Mention was made of needing to re-tighten throughout a day of fishing, which is common of this type of fishing pole.
It should be noted that the case is only semi-waterproof, so while it couches the rod well and keeps the water out with a little splashing, it will eventually take on water if left immersed for a good amount of time.
The general consensus seems to be that this is a great rod to have for fishing in lakes, for small- to medium-catches, and for portability. It is very popular.
Although this collapsible fishing pole had only seven reviews, they were all 5 out of 5 stars. Its original price was $70 but is currently (as of August 2015) on Amazon for less than $40. This is a 6’6”, medium action rod with a line weight of 8-17 lbs, and it works great with mono, fluoro, or superlines. It has a four-piece Soft Touch reel seat with maximum blank exposure and almost weightless EVA grips, and stainless steel framed guides and hook keeper.
Customers have said that for the money, this is an excellent rod. It is both stout and sensitive, and no mention was made of the sections coming apart during a long day of fishing. The eyelets are solid, and it even stayed put together with several hard casts.
This collapsible fishing pole is easy to pack in your backpack or suitcase, and bring with you anywhere. It’s strong and reliable, and worth a lot more than the low price tag it currently sports. Customers have been very satisfied with this rod.
